Who Was Thomas… and Why Is He Called "The Twin"?
In the canonical gospels, Thomas appears only occasionally — a doubter, a background figure. But in the Gospel of Thomas, he is something else entirely.
There, he is named: Didymos Judas Thomas.
"Didymos" (Greek) and "Thomas" (Aramaic) both mean the same thing: “Twin.”
