Safari (Mac)

Safari on macOS relies on your system's Spoken Content settings rather than a browser-level button.

Option 1: Speak a selected section

  1. Select the text you want to hear.
  2. Right-click the selection.
  3. Choose Speech > Start Speaking.

Option 2: Speak the whole page

  2. Hover over Speech.
  3. Click Start Speaking.

To enable the Option + Esc shortcut: go to System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content, and turn on Speak selection.

Firefox

Firefox does not include a built-in read aloud feature, but the free Read Aloud extension from Mozilla Add-ons works well on any page.

  1. In Firefox, open the Add-ons site at addons.mozilla.org.
  2. Search for Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader.
  3. Click Add to Firefox and confirm the install.
  4. A speaker icon will appear in your toolbar. Click it on any TGK page to start reading.

You can set a custom keyboard shortcut for the extension inside Firefox at about:addons > the gear icon > Manage Extension Shortcuts.

iPhone and iPad (iOS / iPadOS)

Apple's Spoken Content tools work across all apps and browsers on your device, including Safari.

Step 1: Enable Spoken Content

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Spoken Content.
  4. Enable Speak Screen and/or Speak Selection.

Step 2: Use it on a TGK page

You can adjust the reading speed and voice at Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content.

Chrome for Android includes a built-in "Listen to this page" feature that reads the page aloud using your device's text-to-speech engine.

Using Chrome's built-in feature:

  1. Open any TGK content page in Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Listen to this page.
  4. A player bar will appear at the bottom of the screen with playback controls.

Using Android's Select to Speak (all apps):

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Select to Speak and enable it.
  2. Once active, tap the accessibility icon (usually bottom right), then tap any text on screen to hear it read aloud.

The "Listen to this page" option may not appear in older Chrome versions. Update Chrome from the Play Store if you do not see it.
